Inquiring minds would like to know! Trust me, I would LOVE to know when I'll be home as much you would. The best I can do at this point is make some good guesses based on what "should" happen moving forward.
Our 10 day wait post court will be up!! This means the court can issue the decree, making the boys legally ours and allowing us to move forward with changing birth certificates. Changing the birth certificates is the first step of the "paper chase" which will end with us on an airplane home!
Although the wait is "up", the court decree isn't issued until the 11th day. Because that will be a Saturday, we will have to wait until next business day....which is Tueday, July 1st. Monday, June 30th is a national holiday, Constitution Day.
July 1st- 2nd
We can pick up the court decree Tuesday morning and boys are officially, legally ours!! Then the Paper chase begins! We will spend 2 days running all over the Kyiv Region getting birth certificates changed, passport pictures taken and passports applied for. At some point we will close out each boy's Government bank accounts and donate the money back to the orphanages. These two days will be busy with lots of running around and lots of waiting! Hurry up and wait-Welcome to Ukraine!
Gotcha Day! I hope. My mom arrives! I hope. Again...plans and lots of hoping. I hope to get both boys out of the orphanage and am so lucky my mom will be here to help. It will be a very special day. The boys will meet each other for the first time and also meet their Oma! And they will be free!!
I have no idea what will have gone afoul by this point and what we might actually be doing! Hopefully things will be on schedule and I will have my first embassy appointment. Bill had to sign the forms needed at this appointment before he left so they are already prepared and at the embassy. Should be easy and quick. Mom will probably stay at the apartment with the babies since they don't have to make an appearance until the 2nd embassy appointment.
July 5th - July 6th
Hopefully I'll get to take my mom around to see the sights and the boys will have their first taste of being on the go! We'll play it by ear and follow the boys' lead on how much they can handle.
The passports should be ready. We will also do the Medical Appointment which is pretty basic and painless. Let's hope the locals don't fuss too much and our team will get us through in a very short time.
After we have passports in hand and the medical done, we can do our 2nd embassy appointment. Depending on what time everything happens we may be able to squeeze in this final step but not counting on it!
Most likely we will do the 2nd Embassy appointment and get the boys Visas. We will pack for home and celebrate!! It will be bitter sweet but I can not wait for this day!
The journey home, we hope! It will be about a 25 hour journey that will begin with us being picked up at 3am to head to the airport. We won't buy tickets until we have passports in hand so we won't know specific travel plans until the last minute. With the 7 hour time difference, we should arrive sometime the evening on the 7th in Tallahassee.
Now all we have to do is hope things go as planned! Stay tuned 😉
